Eyes Everywhere

Step onto a pulsating realm, where beats throb and lights flicker in hypnotic rhythms – where technology meets the dance floor. As you lose yourself in the music, consider this: Are you truly free in this space, or are you under the watchful eye of an unseen observer? Drawing inspiration from the panopticon, 11 visual artists delve into the connections between the dance floor and this architectural symbol of surveillance.

In the panopticon, the feeling of being watched leads to self-regulation and conformity. When translated to club culture, the DJ becomes a modern-day warden while the crowd, illuminated by lights, subconsciously acknowledges the constant gaze, both in-person and online. Blurred are the boundaries between public and private life when every joyous smile, every moment of euphoria and every dance move is captured. In what sense does this influence our behavior, our movements and our expressions in this space of liberation? What will you reveal? Who holds the strings?
